Does CBD Oil Help Dogs With Fireworks?

The May 2-4 weekend ushered in fireworks season. Did you have a rough night with your dog last night?

My girls are terrified of fireworks…even a single firecracker set off in someone’s backyard starts them shaking. Although I have had positive feedback from many people on the effectiveness of CBD for situational anxiety such as fireworks, this is the first summer since I began making and selling Bark At The Moon Naturals CBD Oil, so this weekend was the first test for my own dogs.

On Sunday night I dosed them according to weight and settled in for the night. My littlest one, Skye, noticed when they began but did nothing more than come up on the bed…no shaking. Her sister Harley was much calmer than previous years but did come out from under the bed, scratch at the door and tremble a little…time to adjust her dose.

Last night, the BIG night for fireworks, I increased her dose by about 25% and she weathered them like a champ. Over the course of 40 minutes, she came out from under the bed twice, but no barking, shaking, or scratching at the door. A definite improvement!

The older they get, the more my girls have reacted to both fireworks and thunderstorms, and it broke my heart to see them so frightened and not be able to do anything to help them. I am beyond elated that this works for them.

A thought on dosage: every dog metabolizes things at a different rate. Start with the dosage on the label which is based on your dog’s weight, and observe their reaction. If they are still exhibiting symptoms, increase it by 25%. Do this until you find the sweet spot for your dog. Conversely, if the recommended dose puts them to sleep, try reducing the dose.

NOTE: CBD is non-toxic, and does not build up in their system. Anything that is not used is eliminated when they pee.
